Mackinnon Jacobs Lawyers is a well-established law firm located to the east of Melbourne in Boronia. With over 100 years in the business our clients rely on our legal expertise in the areas of family law, commercial law, conveyancing & property law and wills & estates.

Our year is shaping up to be a busy one! The door is now open for you to join our team of 22 as our newest Probate Clerk. This is a rare opportunity indeed, as longevity at Mackinnon Jacobs Lawyers is very common.

Working autonomously, we want you to take this role and make it your own. You will be responsible for the end-to-end process of managing probate and the administration of deceased estates files. This includes but is not limited to:

  • the initial investigation and publication through the Supreme court website, preparation of creditor notices and applications of probate / letters of administration
  • dealing with financial institutions to prepare the closure of accounts, policies and sale of shares
  • instructing accountants in the preparation of tax returns
  • Filing of documents via Redcrest, responding to Requisitions from Registrar and drafting of additional Affidavits such as Affidavit of Due Execution (as and if required) Ordering property searches and certificates
  • Transfer of ownership of real estate to beneficiaries including liaising with the mortgagee, overseeing the lodgement at the Land Titles Office and liaising with the SRO
  • Attending to payment of all estate expenses, preparation of Distribution Statement, investment of funds (if required) and arranging distribution of funds to beneficiaries

Bring your wealth of knowledge and minimum 2 years of experience in this area of law and get ready to be challenged. But don’t think you will be alone. You will be a part of the Estate’s team who back each other through the highs and lows of estate administration.
